‘Masc’ is a short documentary ethnographic film which focuses on the personal experiences of two individuals, Harvey and Jack, as they seek to create their identity as males whilst upholding societal expectations of masculinity. Both Harvey and Jack discuss how they use their masculinity as either a “protecting shield” or as a facade/performance, which led me to viewing masculinity as a type of symbolic mask, or as I have reinterpreted, as a masc.
